There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

" Behold, [the] days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

Thus says the Lord GOD: "I will take also [one] of the highest branches of the high cedar and set [it] out. I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and will plant [it] on a high and prominent mountain.

"And all the trees of the field shall know that I, the LORD, have brought down the high tree and exalted the low tree, dried up the green tree and made the dry tree flourish; I, the LORD, have spoken and have done [it."]

"Then speak to him, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, saying: "Behold, the Man whose name [is] the BRANCH! From His place He shall branch out, And He shall build the temple of the LORD;

"Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" And they were offended at Him.

And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

So when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their [own] city, Nazareth.

And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart.

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air [have] nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay [His] head."

For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God [did] by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,

who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,

but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, [and] coming in the likeness of men.

Just as many were astonished at you, So His visage was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men;

Then He answered and told them, "Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Then they reviled him and said, "You are His disciple, but we are Moses' disciples.

"We know that God spoke to Moses; [as for] this [fellow,] we do not know where He is from."

Then they all cried again, saying, "Not this Man, but Barabbas!" Now Barabbas was a robber.

Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And [Pilate] said to them, "Behold the Man!"

Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold your King!"

But they cried out, "Away with [Him,] away with [Him!] Crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!"

or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and [for the] praise of those who do good.
