"But if you say to me, 'We trust in the LORD our God,' [is it] not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and said to Judah and Jerusalem, 'You shall worship before this altar'?" '

"Have I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? The LORD said to me, 'Go up against this land, and destroy it.' "

'nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, "The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria." '

"Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying: 'Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, "Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."

Who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips [are] our own; Who [is] lord over us?"

O LORD, how great are Your works! Your thoughts are very deep.

When the wicked spring up like grass, And when all the workers of iniquity flourish, [It is] that they may be destroyed forever.

'Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, and the people of Eden who [were] in Telassar?

'Where [is] the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?' "

"Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God.

"Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands,

'Has any of the gods of the nations at all delivered its land from the hand of the king of Assyria?

'Who among all the gods of the lands have delivered their countries from my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem from my hand?' "

'Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, and the people of Eden who [were] in Telassar?

'Where [is] the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?' "

"Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,

"and have cast their gods into the fire; for they [were] not gods, but the work of men's hands -- wood and stone. Therefore they destroyed them.

'Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of [other] lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their lands out of my hand?

'Now therefore, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or persuade you like this, and do not believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people from my hand or the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand?' "

He also wrote letters to revile the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, "As the gods of the nations of [other] lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver His people from my hand."

Why should the Gentiles say, "So where [is] their God?"

Their idols [are] silver and gold, The work of men's hands.

They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell;

Those who make them are like them; [So is] everyone who trusts in them.

For I know that the LORD [is] great, And our Lord [is] above all gods.

Whatever the LORD pleases He does, In heaven and in earth, In the seas and in all deep places.

The idols of the nations [are] silver and gold, The work of men's hands.

They have ears, but they do not hear; Nor is there [any] breath in their mouths.

For the customs of the peoples [are] futile; For [one] cuts a tree from the forest, The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.

They [are] upright, like a palm tree, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot go [by themselves.] Do not be afraid of them, For they cannot do evil, Nor can they do any good."

But the LORD [is] the true God; He [is] the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.

He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His discretion.

"Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, [and] psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, [good!] But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who [is] the god who will deliver you from my hands?"

Woe to him who says to wood, 'Awake!' To silent stone, 'Arise! It shall teach!' Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet in it there is no breath at all.

But the LORD is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him."
