That this [is] a rebellious people, Lying children, Children [who] will not hear the law of the LORD;

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled against Me;

But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; So He turned Himself against them as an enemy, [And] He fought against them.

I have stretched out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, Who walk in a way [that is] not good, According to their own thoughts;

" Remember! Do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

"You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

"and so it may not happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he blesses himself in his heart, saying, 'I shall have peace, even though I follow the dictates of my heart' -- as though the drunkard could be included with the sober.

Like keepers of a field they are against her all around, Because she has been rebellious against Me," says the LORD.

But this people has a defiant and rebellious heart; They have revolted and departed.

And He said to me: "Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day.

"Like adamant stone, harder than flint, I have made your forehead; do not be afraid of them, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they [are] a rebellious house."

"I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be mute and not be one to rebuke them, for they [are] a rebellious house.

"But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD.' He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse; for they [are] a rebellious house.

"Therefore, son of man, prepare your belongings for captivity, and go into captivity by day in their sight. You shall go from your place into captivity to another place in their sight. It may be that they will consider, though they [are] a rebellious house.

" Woe to them, for they have fled from Me! Destruction to them, Because they have transgressed against Me! Though I redeemed them, Yet they have spoken lies against Me.

" [You] stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers [did,] so [do] you.

"Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

And when they say to you, "Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter," should not a people seek their God? [Should they seek] the dead on behalf of the living?

Woe to those who seek deep to hide their counsel far from the LORD, And their works are in the dark; They say, "Who sees us?" and, "Who knows us?"

So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance.

But [he] did not inquire of the LORD; therefore He killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

For they shall eat, but not have enough; They shall commit harlotry, but not increase; Because they have ceased obeying the LORD.

My people ask counsel from their wooden [idols,] And their staff informs them. For the spirit of harlotry has caused [them] to stray, And they have played the harlot against their God.

then the LORD will create above every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and above her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night. For over all the glory there [will be] a covering.

Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we are in agreement. When the overflowing scourge passes through, It will not come to us, For we have made lies our refuge, And under falsehood we have hidden ourselves."

For the bed is too short to stretch out [on,] And the covering so narrow that one cannot wrap himself [in it.]

A man will be as a hiding place from the wind, And a cover from the tempest, As rivers of water in a dry place, As the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler [And] from the perilous pestilence.

Why should you be stricken again? You will revolt more and more. The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints.

Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of vanity, And sin as if with a cart rope;

"And look! You have risen in your father's place, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the LORD against Israel.

Now they sin more and more, And have made for themselves molded images, Idols of their silver, according to their skill; All of it [is] the work of craftsmen. They say of them, "Let the men who sacrifice kiss the calves!"

But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
