The burden against Damascus. "Behold, Damascus will cease from [being] a city, And it will be a ruinous heap.

It will never be inhabited, Nor will it be settled from generation to generation; Nor will the Arabian pitch tents there, Nor will the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.

The hyenas will howl in their citadels, And jackals in their pleasant palaces. Her time [is] near to come, And her days will not be prolonged."

"I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, And marshes of muddy water; I will sweep it with the broom of destruction," says the LORD of hosts.

The sea has come up over Babylon; She is covered with the multitude of its waves.

From the chamber [of the south] comes the whirlwind, And cold from the scattering winds [of the north.]

" At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm [them,] and pass through.

Then the LORD will be seen over them, And His arrow will go forth like lightning. The Lord GOD will blow the trumpet, And go with whirlwinds from the south.

The noise of a multitude in the mountains, Like that of many people! A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together! The LORD of hosts musters The army for battle.

They come from a far country, From the end of heaven -- The LORD and His weapons of indignation, To destroy the whole land.

" Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, Who will not regard silver; And [as for] gold, they will not delight in it.

Also [their] bows will dash the young men to pieces, And they will have no pity on the fruit of the womb; Their eye will not spare children.

He and his people with him, the most terrible of the nations, Shall be brought to destroy the land; They shall draw their swords against Egypt, And fill the land with the slain.

'And aliens, the most terrible of the nations, have cut it down and left it; its branches have fallen on the mountains and in all the valleys; its boughs lie broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the peoples of the earth have gone from under its shadow and left it.
