Therefore I will bewail the vine of Sibmah, With the weeping of Jazer; I will drench you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh; For battle cries have fallen Over your summer fruits and your harvest.

Therefore my heart shall resound like a harp for Moab, And my inner being for Kir Heres.

I would comfort myself in sorrow; My heart [is] faint in me.

Listen! The voice, The cry of the daughter of my people From a far country: "[Is] not the LORD in Zion? [Is] not her King in her?" "Why have they provoked Me to anger With their carved images -- With foreign idols?"

I will take up a weeping and wailing for the mountains, And for the dwelling places of the wilderness a lamentation, Because they are burned up, So that no one can pass through; Nor can [men] hear the voice of the cattle. Both the birds of the heavens and the beasts have fled; They are gone.

Let them make haste And take up a wailing for us, That our eyes may run with tears, And our eyelids gush with water.

For a voice of wailing is heard from Zion: 'How we are plundered! We are greatly ashamed, Because we have forsaken the land, Because we have been cast out of our dwellings.' "

But if you will not hear it, My soul will weep in secret for [your] pride; My eyes will weep bitterly And run down with tears, Because the LORD's flock has been taken captive.

As for me, I have not hurried away from [being] a shepherd [who] follows You, Nor have I desired the woeful day; You know what came out of my lips; It was right there before You.

Therefore I will wail for Moab, And I will cry out for all Moab; I will mourn for the men of Kir Heres.

Joy and gladness are taken From the plentiful field And from the land of Moab; I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses; No one will tread with joyous shouting -- Not joyous shouting!

"Moreover," says the LORD, "I will cause to cease in Moab The one who offers [sacrifices] in the high places And burns incense to his gods.

Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,

"For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,

I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,

For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh,

And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it [was] well watered everywhere (before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.

[that] they made war with Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).

"Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

But now the LORD has spoken, saying, "Within three years, as the years of a hired man, the glory of Moab will be despised with all that great multitude, and the remnant [will be] very small [and] feeble."

" From the cry of Heshbon to Elealeh and to Jahaz They have uttered their voice, From Zoar to Horonaim, [Like] a three-year-old heifer; For the waters of Nimrim also shall be desolate.

For in the Ascent of Luhith they ascend with continual weeping; For in the descent of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.

" From the cry of Heshbon to Elealeh and to Jahaz They have uttered their voice, From Zoar to Horonaim, [Like] a three-year-old heifer; For the waters of Nimrim also shall be desolate.

And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people crossed over. The king himself also crossed over the Brook Kidron, and all the people crossed over toward the way of the wilderness.

So David went up by the Ascent of the [Mount of] Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered and went barefoot. And all the people who [were] with him covered their heads and went up, weeping as they went up.

For [it is] a day of trouble and treading down and perplexity By the Lord GOD of hosts In the Valley of Vision -- Breaking down the walls And of crying to the mountain.

Destruction upon destruction is cried, For the whole land is plundered. Suddenly my tents are plundered, [And] my curtains in a moment.
