[There is] a generation -- oh, how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up.

The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek [God;] God [is] in none of his thoughts.

For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks.

Therefore pride serves as their necklace; Violence covers them [like] a garment.

They scoff and speak wickedly [concerning] oppression; They speak loftily.

Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure.

A Song of Ascents. Of David. LORD, my heart is not haughty, Nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I concern myself with great matters, Nor with things too profound for me.

The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, And the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

The look on their countenance witnesses against them, And they declare their sin as Sodom; They do not hide [it.] Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil upon themselves.

Moreover the LORD says: "Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, And walk with outstretched necks And wanton eyes, Walking and mincing [as] they go, Making a jingling with their feet,

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to [your] elders. Yes, all of [you] be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."

Lying lips [are] an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal truthfully [are] His delight.

A faithful witness does not lie, But a false witness will utter lies.

A lying tongue hates [those who are] crushed by it, And a flattering mouth works ruin.

You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips [And] from a deceitful tongue.

What shall be given to you, Or what shall be done to you, You false tongue?

Hear the word of the LORD, You children of Israel, For the LORD [brings] a charge against the inhabitants of the land: "There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land.

[By] swearing and lying, Killing and stealing and committing adultery, They break all restraint, With bloodshed upon bloodshed.

"You are of [your] father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and [does not] stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own [resources,] for he is a liar and the father of it.

But outside [are] dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

If they say, "Come with us, Let us lie in wait to [shed] blood; Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;

'Cursed [is] the one who takes a bribe to slay an innocent person.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen!'

and also because of the innocent blood that he had shed; for he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, which the LORD would not pardon.

When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.

For your hands are defiled with blood, And your fingers with iniquity; Your lips have spoken lies, Your tongue has muttered perversity.

They hatch vipers' eggs and weave the spider's web; He who eats of their eggs dies, And [from] that which is crushed a viper breaks out.
