Perversity [is] in his heart, He devises evil continually, He sows discord.

A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil,

A violent man entices his neighbor, And leads him in a way [that is] not good.

He winks his eye to devise perverse things; He purses his lips [and] brings about evil.

For they do not speak peace, But they devise deceitful matters Against [the] quiet ones in the land.

He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; He has broken his covenant.

For look, they lie in wait for my life; The mighty gather against me, Not [for] my transgression nor [for] my sin, O LORD.

Then they said, "Come and let us devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come and let us attack him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words."

Shall evil be repaid for good? For they have dug a pit for my life. Remember that I stood before You To speak good for them, To turn away Your wrath from them.

Woe to those who devise iniquity, And work out evil on their beds! At morning light they practice it, Because it is in the power of their hand.

They covet fields and take [them] by violence, Also houses, and seize [them.] So they oppress a man and his house, A man and his inheritance.
