Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed [is] the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat [of] it All the days of your life.

In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you [are,] And to dust you shall return."

[Then] let thistles grow instead of wheat, And weeds instead of barley." The words of Job are ended.

For thus says the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: "Break up your fallow ground, And do not sow among thorns.

"And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them.

"Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

but if it bears thorns and briars, [it is] rejected and near to being cursed, whose end [is] to be burned.

The fear of the LORD [leads] to life, And [he who has it] will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil.

The lazy [man] will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and [have] nothing.

The lazy [man] says, "[There is] a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!"

For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe [a man] with rags.

Because of laziness the building decays, And through idleness of hands the house leaks.
