Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction [is] stupid.

A wise son [heeds] his father's instruction, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

"They have struck me, [but] I was not hurt; They have beaten me, but I did not feel [it.] When shall I awake, that I may seek another [drink?"]

Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, "[Is that] you, O troubler of Israel?"

So Ahab said to Elijah, "Have you found me, O my enemy?" And he answered, "I have found [you,] because you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the LORD:

So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "[There is] still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say such things!"

"For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

"The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil.

They would have none of my counsel [And] despised my every rebuke.

And say: "How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised correction!

He who keeps instruction [is in] the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray.

Why should you be stricken again? You will revolt more and more. The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints.

From the sole of the foot even to the head, [There is] no soundness in it, [But] wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; They have not been closed or bound up, Or soothed with ointment.

In your filthiness [is] lewdness. Because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed, You will not be cleansed of your filthiness anymore, Till I have caused My fury to rest upon you.

I, the LORD, have spoken [it;] It shall come to pass, and I will do [it;] I will not hold back, Nor will I spare, Nor will I relent; According to your ways And according to your deeds They will judge you," Says the Lord GOD.' "
