The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not share its joy.

A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

All the days of the afflicted [are] evil, But he who is of a merry heart [has] a continual feast.

A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word [spoken] in due season, how good [it is!]

A merry heart does good, [like] medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.

The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, But who can bear a broken spirit?

And it came to pass in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, [when] wine [was] before him, that I took the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had never been sad in his presence before.

Therefore the king said to me, "Why [is] your face sad, since you [are] not sick? This [is] nothing but sorrow of heart." So I became dreadfully afraid,

I am troubled, I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.

And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed.

Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, [even] to death. Stay here and watch."

There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise [promotes] health.

A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word [spoken] in due season, how good [it is!]

Pleasant words [are like] a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold In settings of silver.

Ointment and perfume delight the heart, And the sweetness of a man's friend [gives delight] by hearty counsel.

" The Lord GOD has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to [him who is] weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear To hear as the learned.

And the LORD answered the angel who talked to me, [with] good [and] comforting words.

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.

This punishment which [was inflicted] by the majority [is] sufficient for such a man,
