He said to him, "I too [am] a prophet as you [are,] and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.' " (He was lying to him.)

Now it happened, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back;

'but you came back, ate bread, and drank water in the place of which [the] [Lord] said to you, "Eat no bread and drink no water," your corpse shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.' "

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall I go against Ramoth Gilead to fight, or shall I refrain?" So they said, "Go up, for the Lord will deliver [it] into the hand of the king."

"And the LORD said, 'Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?' So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner.

"The LORD said to him, 'In what way?' So he said, 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And the LORD said, 'You shall persuade [him,] and also prevail. Go out and do so.'

So [are] the paths of all who forget God; And the hope of the hypocrite shall perish,

That the hypocrite should not reign, Lest the people be ensnared.

For [it is] not an enemy [who] reproaches me; Then I could bear [it.] Nor [is it] one [who] hates me who has exalted [himself] against me; Then I could hide from him.

He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; He has broken his covenant.

[The words] of his mouth were smoother than butter, But war [was] in his heart; His words were softer than oil, Yet they [were] drawn swords.

" Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

"But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me [is] a gift [to God" -- ]

"Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

And in vain they worship Me, Teaching [as] doctrines the commandments of men.' "

"Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man."

But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.

"Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.

For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.

Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, [and] bring on themselves swift destruction.

By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,

To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things,

Who rejoice in doing evil, [And] delight in the perversity of the wicked;

To deliver you from the immoral woman, From the seductress [who] flatters with her words,

Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.

Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you.

For the commandment [is] a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life,

To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress.

" So when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not" (let the reader understand), "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

"For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

"But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.

till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,

as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable [people] twist to their own destruction, as [they do] also the rest of the Scriptures.

but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him [be] the glory both now and forever. Amen.

I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
