Then Samson went and caught three hundred foxes; and he took torches, turned [the foxes] tail to tail, and put a torch between each pair of tails.

When he had set the torches on fire, he let [the foxes] go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burned up both the shocks and the standing grain, as well as the vineyards [and] olive groves.

So he said to his servants, "See, Joab's field is near mine, and he has barley there; go and set it on fire." And Absalom's servants set the field on fire.

Then Joab arose and came to Absalom's house, and said to him, "Why have your servants set my field on fire?"

" For any kind of trespass, [whether it concerns] an ox, a donkey, a sheep, or clothing, [or] for any kind of lost thing which [another] claims to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; [and] whomever the judges condemn shall pay double to his neighbor.

"But if, in fact, it is stolen from him, he shall make restitution to the owner of it.

" And if a man opens a pit, or if a man digs a pit and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls in it,

"the owner of the pit shall make [it] good; he shall give money to their owner, but the dead [animal] shall be his.
