'If a person sins in hearing the utterance of an oath, and [is] a witness, whether he has seen or known [of the matter -- if] he does not tell [it,] he bears guilt.

"or if he has found what was lost and lies concerning it, and swears falsely -- in any one of these things that a man may do in which he sins:

Then the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, "Did I not make you swear by the LORD, and warn you, saying, 'Know for certain that on the day you go out and travel anywhere, you shall surely die'? And you said to me, 'The word I have heard [is] good.'

"Why then have you not kept the oath of the LORD and the commandment that I gave you?"

Lest I be full and deny [You,] And say, "Who [is] the LORD?" Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God.

For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation [is] for them an end of all dispute.

"If the thief is not found, then the master of the house shall be brought to the judges [to see] whether he has put his hand into his neighbor's goods.

"You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
