This [was] the water of Meribah, because the children of Israel contended with the LORD, and He was hallowed among them.

" Also at Taberah and Massah and Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked the LORD to wrath.

Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, "Give us water, that we may drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the LORD?"

You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah

"Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As [in] the day of trial in the wilderness,

Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.

Then he said, "If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we [are] a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance."

"Then My anger shall be aroused against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, 'Have not these evils come upon us because our God [is] not among us?'

Then Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and the children of Manasseh, "This day we perceive that the LORD [is] among us, because you have not committed this treachery against the LORD. Now you have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the LORD."

Cry out and shout, O inhabitant of Zion, For great [is] the Holy One of Israel in your midst!"

Her heads judge for a bribe, Her priests teach for pay, And her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No harm can come upon us."

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

" This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, 'The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear.'
