So the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God [was.]

"Then you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the midst of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.

" These words the LORD spoke to all your assembly, in the mountain from the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and He added no more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.

He sent darkness, and made [it] dark; And they did not rebel against His word.

A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of clouds and thick darkness, Like the morning [clouds] spread over the mountains. A people [come,] great and strong, The like of whom has never been; Nor will there ever be any [such] after them, Even for many successive generations.

The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.

For behold, He who forms mountains, And creates the wind, Who declares to man what his thought [is,] And makes the morning darkness, Who treads the high places of the earth -- The LORD God of hosts [is] His name.

Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain.
