The pangs of death surrounded me, And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid.

To the Chief Musician. Set to "The Lilies." A Psalm of David. Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to [my] neck.

I sink in deep mire, Where [there is] no standing; I have come into deep waters, Where the floods overflow me.

Deliver me out of the mire, And let me not sink; Let me be delivered from those who hate me, And out of the deep waters.

Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness [is] good; Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.

Woe to the multitude of many people [Who] make a noise like the roar of the seas, And to the rushing of nations [That] make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters; But [God] will rebuke them and they will flee far away, And be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, Like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

"Who [is] this coming up like a flood, Whose waters move like the rivers?

Egypt rises up like a flood, And [its] waters move like the rivers; And he says, 'I will go up [and] cover the earth, I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.'

For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.

So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood.

Then he said to me, "The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;

Let the rivers clap [their] hands; Let the hills be joyful together before the LORD,

"For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap [their] hands.

Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing?

"Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us."

For He commands and raises the stormy wind, Which lifts up the waves of the sea.

They mount up to the heavens, They go down again to the depths; Their soul melts because of trouble.

Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us;

Then the swollen waters Would have gone over our soul."

"who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: 'Why did the nations rage, And the people plot vain things?

"For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together
