Many [are] the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.

Blessed [is] the man whom You instruct, O LORD, And teach out of Your law,

So I have been allotted months of futility, And wearisome nights have been appointed to me.

When I lie down, I say, 'When shall I arise, And the night be ended?' For I have had my fill of tossing till dawn.

That You should visit him every morning, [And] test him every moment?

[Does it] seem good to You that You should oppress, That You should despise the work of Your hands, And smile on the counsel of the wicked?

You renew Your witnesses against me, And increase Your indignation toward me; Changes and war are [ever] with me.

Why is my pain perpetual And my wound incurable, [Which] refuses to be healed? Will You surely be to me like an unreliable stream, [As] waters [that] fail?

"You only have I known of all the families of the earth; Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities."

And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,
