"When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth."

"Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen [that] anyone who finds me will kill me."

Then Adoni-Bezek fled, and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.

And Adoni-Bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather [scraps] under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me." Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten.

"Then they shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I scatter them among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries.

"But I will spare a few of their men from the sword, from famine, and from pestilence, that they may declare all their abominations among the Gentiles wherever they go. Then they shall know that I [am] the LORD."

"Yet behold, there shall be left in it a remnant who will be brought out, [both] sons and daughters; surely they will come out to you, and you will see their ways and their doings. Then you will be comforted concerning the disaster that I have brought upon Jerusalem, all that I have brought upon it.

"And they will comfort you, when you see their ways and their doings; and you shall know that I have done nothing without cause that I have done in it," says the LORD GOD.

In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

You have given us up like sheep [intended] for food, And have scattered us among the nations.

God shall likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of [your] dwelling place, And uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you; your land shall be desolate and your cities waste.

"And the LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD will drive you.

" Then the LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other, and there you shall serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known -- wood and stone.

"that the LORD your God will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where the LORD your God has scattered you.

"If [any] of you are driven out to the farthest [parts] under heaven, from there the LORD your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you.

"Then they shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I scatter them among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries.

He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered [the] proud in the imagination of their hearts.

He has put down the mighty from [their] thrones, And exalted [the] lowly.

"Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her.

Look on everyone [who is] proud, [and] bring him low; Tread down the wicked in their place.

But You, O LORD, [are] a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.

For the LORD God [is] a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good [thing] will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.
