"And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, [then] your descendants also could be numbered.

So He said, "I [am] God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.

But the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.

"And you shall answer and say before the LORD your God: 'My father [was] a Syrian, about to perish, and he went down to Egypt and dwelt there, few in number; and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous.

" But when the time of the promise drew near which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt

Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born [as many] as the stars of the sky in multitude -- innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.

Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.

And he said to his people, "Look, the people of the children of Israel [are] more and mightier than we;

Then the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children.
