[If] I am condemned, Why then do I labor in vain?

Yet You will plunge me into the pit, And my own clothes will abhor me.

For You write bitter things against me, And make me inherit the iniquities of my youth.

For now You number my steps, But do not watch over my sin.

[Is] not your wickedness great, And your iniquity without end?

If I have covered my transgressions as Adam, By hiding my iniquity in my bosom,

'I [am] pure, without transgression; I [am] innocent, and [there is] no iniquity in me.

Then he looks at men and says, 'I have sinned, and perverted [what was] right, And it did not profit me.'

O LORD God of hosts, How long will You be angry Against the prayer of Your people?

You alone [are] the LORD; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You.

Your righteousness [is] like the great mountains; Your judgments [are] a great deep; O LORD, You preserve man and beast.

[Am] I a sea, or a sea serpent, That You set a guard over me?

For the arrows of the Almighty [are] within me; My spirit drinks in their poison; The terrors of God are arrayed against me.

I was at ease, but He has shattered me; He also has taken [me] by my neck, and shaken me to pieces; He has set me up for His target,

He breaks me with wound upon wound; He runs at me like a warrior.

Therefore You will make them turn their back; You will make ready [Your arrows] on Your string toward their faces.

He has bent His bow And set me up as a target for the arrow.

" Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

For my sighing comes before I eat, And my groanings pour out like water.
