Your words have upheld him who was stumbling, And you have strengthened the feeble knees;

[But] I would strengthen you with my mouth, And the comfort of my lips would relieve [your grief.]

There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise [promotes] health.

The wise in heart will be called prudent, And sweetness of the lips increases learning.

The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, And adds learning to his lips.

Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold In settings of silver.

The Preacher sought to find acceptable words; and [what was] written [was] upright -- words of truth.

The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd.

Oh, that you would be silent, And it would be your wisdom!

Shall words of wind have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?

I also could speak as you [do,] If your soul were in my soul's place. I could heap up words against you, And shake my head at you;

How then can you comfort me with empty words, Since falsehood remains in your answers?"

" Now if [it is] not [so,] who will prove me a liar, And make my speech worth nothing?"

Also against his three friends his wrath was aroused, because they had found no answer, and [yet] had condemned Job.
