Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.

Now the land was not able to support them, that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together.

"[Will] not their livestock, their property, and every animal of theirs [be] ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will dwell with us."

Moreover he provided cities for himself, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much property.

Now the LORD blessed the latter [days] of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.

He treated Abram well for her sake. He had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

The booty remaining from the plunder, which the men of war had taken, was six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep,

sixty-one thousand donkeys,

For they would come up with their livestock and their tents, coming in as numerous as locusts; both they and their camels were without number; and they would enter the land to destroy it.

Now [there was] a man in Maon whose business [was] in Carmel, and the man [was] very rich. He had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. And he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheepbreeder, and he regularly paid the king of Israel one hundred thousand lambs and the wool of one hundred thousand rams.

The blessing of the LORD makes [one] rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.

Also he built towers in the desert. He dug many wells, for he had much livestock, both in the lowlands and in the plains; [he also had] farmers and vinedressers in the mountains and in Carmel, for he loved the soil.

The princes refrained from talking, And put [their] hand on their mouth;

The voice of nobles was hushed, And their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.

I chose the way for them, and sat as chief; So I dwelt as a king in the army, As one [who] comforts mourners.

So it was, whenever Israel had sown, Midianites would come up; also Amalekites and the people of the East would come up against them.

Now the Midianites and Amalekites, all the people of the East, were lying in the valley as numerous as locusts; and their camels [were] without number, as the sand by the seashore in multitude.

Now Zebah and Zalmunna [were] at Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand, all who were left of all the army of the people of the East; for one hundred and twenty thousand men who drew the sword had fallen.

Thus Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt.

But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.

So Jacob went on his journey and came to the land of the people of the East.

And he took up his oracle and said: "Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, From the mountains of the east. 'Come, curse Jacob for me, And come, denounce Israel!'
