So the land had rest for forty years. Then Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD. So the LORD strengthened Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.

So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest for eighty years.

When Ehud was dead, the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD.

"Thus let all Your enemies perish, O LORD! But [let] those who love Him [be] like the sun When it comes out in full strength." So the land had rest for forty years.

Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD. So the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian for seven years,

" When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and when they turn back to You and confess Your name, and pray and make supplication to You in this temple,

"then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave to their fathers.

"then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men),

Look down from heaven, And see from Your habitation, holy and glorious. Where [are] Your zeal and Your strength, The yearning of Your heart and Your mercies toward me? Are they restrained?

Many times He delivered them; But they rebelled in their counsel, And were brought low for their iniquity.

And for their sake He remembered His covenant, And relented according to the multitude of His mercies.
