When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard [of it,] they were deeply disturbed that a man had come to seek the well-being of the children of Israel.

But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard [of it,] they laughed at us and despised us, and said, "What [is] this thing that you are doing? Will you rebel against the king?"

Now it happened when Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall, and [that] there were no breaks left in it (though at that time I had not hung the doors in the gates),

Then Ben-Hadad sent to him and said, "The gods do so to me, and more also, if enough dust is left of Samaria for a handful for each of the people who follow me."

So he said, "If they have come out for peace, take them alive; and if they have come out for war, take them alive."

"Now therefore, I urge you, give a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses -- if you are able on your part to put riders on them!
