Thus they were divided by lot, one group as another, for there were officials of the sanctuary and officials [of the house] of God, from the sons of Eleazar and from the sons of Ithamar.

Now the first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah,

And they cast lots for their duty, the small as well as the great, the teacher with the student.

Now the first lot for Asaph came out for Joseph; the second for Gedaliah, him with his brethren and sons, twelve;

Casting lots causes contentions to cease, And keeps the mighty apart.

and [to bringing] the wood offering and the firstfruits at appointed times. Remember me, O my God, for good!

'And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings.

And that day Joshua made them woodcutters and water carriers for the congregation and for the altar of the LORD, in the place which He would choose, even to this day.

And Lebanon [is] not sufficient to burn, Nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt offering.

But in those [sacrifices there is] a reminder of sins every year.

Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me.

Then I said, 'Behold, I have come -- In the volume of the book it is written of Me -- To do Your will, O God.' "

'A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.
