At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem, and the city was besieged.

Then Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his servants, his princes, and his officers went out to the king of Babylon; and the king of Babylon, in the eighth year of his reign, took him prisoner.

Also he carried into captivity all Jerusalem: all the captains and all the mighty men of valor, ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths. None remained except the poorest people of the land.

All the valiant men, seven thousand, and craftsmen and smiths, one thousand, all [who were] strong [and] fit for war, these the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh [day] of the month, [that] Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison.

So Jehoiachin changed from his prison garments, and he ate bread regularly before the king all the days of his life.

(This happened after Jeconiah the king, the queen mother, the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the smiths had departed from Jerusalem.)

On the fifth [day] of the month, which [was] in the fifth year of King Jehoiachin's captivity,

Nebuchadnezzar also carried off [some] of the articles from the house of the LORD to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon.

'But if they [are] prophets, and if the word of the LORD is with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, [in] the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, do not go to Babylon.'

"which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem --

'They shall be carried to Babylon, and there they shall be until the day that I visit them,' says the LORD. 'Then I will bring them up and restore them to this place.' "

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the articles of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the articles into the treasure house of his god.

While he tasted the wine, Belshazzar gave the command to bring the gold and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple which [had been] in Jerusalem, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them.

"And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who [holds] your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

Then the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, [Jehoiachin's] uncle, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

The sons of Josiah [were] Johanan the firstborn, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, and the fourth Shallum.

The sons of Jehoiakim [were] Jeconiah his son [and] Zedekiah his son.

Now King Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
