Manasseh [was] twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.
2
But he did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
3
For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; he raised up altars for the Baals, and made wooden images; and he worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.
4
He also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem shall My name be forever."
5
And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
6
Also he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger.
7
He even set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, "In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever;
8
"and I will not again remove the foot of Israel from the land which I have appointed for your fathers -- only if they are careful to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses."

So Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to do more evil than the nations whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel.

And the LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they would not listen.

He also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem I will put My name."

"and I will not make the feet of Israel wander anymore from the land which I gave their fathers -- only if they are careful to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that My servant Moses commanded them."

But they paid no attention, and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than the nations whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel.

And the LORD spoke by His servants the prophets, saying,

"Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations (he has acted more wickedly than all the Amorites who [were] before him, and has also made Judah sin with his idols),

The craftsman stretches out [his] rule, He marks one out with chalk; He fashions it with a plane, He marks it out with the compass, And makes it like the figure of a man, According to the beauty of a man, that it may remain in the house.

He cuts down cedars for himself, And takes the cypress and the oak; He secures [it] for himself among the trees of the forest. He plants a pine, and the rain nourishes [it.]

Then it shall be for a man to burn, For he will take some of it and warm himself; Yes, he kindles [it] and bakes bread; Indeed he makes a god and worships [it;] He makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.
16
He burns half of it in the fire; With this half he eats meat; He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. He even warms [himself] and says, "Ah! I am warm, I have seen the fire."
17
And the rest of it he makes into a god, His carved image. He falls down before it and worships [it,] Prays to it and says, "Deliver me, for you [are] my god!"
18
They do not know nor understand; For He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, [And] their hearts, so that they cannot understand.
19
And no one considers in his heart, Nor [is there] knowledge nor understanding to say, "I have burned half of it in the fire, Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals; I have roasted meat and eaten [it;] And shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?"
20
He feeds on ashes; A deceived heart has turned him aside; And he cannot deliver his soul, Nor say, "[Is there] not a lie in my right hand?"
