Then the LORD struck the king, so that he was a leper until the day of his death; so he dwelt in an isolated house. And Jotham the king's son [was] over the [royal] house, judging the people of the land.

"He shall be unclean. All the days he has the sore he shall be unclean. He [is] unclean, and he shall dwell alone; his dwelling [shall be] outside the camp.

"Command the children of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper, everyone who has a discharge, and whoever becomes defiled by a corpse.

"You shall put out both male and female; you shall put them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camps in the midst of which I dwell."

So Miriam was shut out of the camp seven days, and the people did not journey till Miriam was brought in [again.]

Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, "Why are we sitting here until we die?
