Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder;

[were] over the burden bearers and [were] overseers of all who did work in any kind of service. And [some] of the Levites [were] scribes, officers, and gatekeepers.

this Ezra came up from Babylon; and he [was] a skilled scribe in the Law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given. The king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.

Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that [was] in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded Israel.

Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go."

Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure [things] new and old."

Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples,

saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat.

These [were] the sons of Levi by their fathers' houses -- the heads of the fathers' [houses] as they were counted individually by the number of their names, who did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and above.
