"Also you shall attack every fortified city and every choice city, and shall cut down every good tree, and stop up every spring of water, and ruin every good piece of land with stones."

So Abimelech fought against the city all that day; he took the city and killed the people who [were] in it; and he demolished the city and sowed it with salt.

Then he defeated Moab. Forcing them down to the ground, he measured them off with a line. With two lines he measured off those to be put to death, and with one full line those to be kept alive. So the Moabites became David's servants, [and] brought tribute.

"Did you not hear long ago [How] I made it, From ancient times that I formed it? Now I have brought it to pass, That you should be For crushing fortified cities [into] heaps of ruins.

Therefore their inhabitants [had] little power; They were dismayed and confounded; They were [as] the grass of the field And the green herb, [As] the grass on the housetops And [grain] blighted before it is grown.

Now the Philistines had stopped up all the wells which his father's servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, and they had filled them with earth.

And Isaac dug again the wells of water which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them up after the death of Abraham. He called them by the names which his father had called them.

Thus many people gathered together who stopped all the springs and the brook that ran through the land, saying, "Why should the kings of Assyria come and find much water?"

" When you besiege a city for a long time, while making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an ax against them; if you can eat of them, do not cut them down to use in the siege, for the tree of the field [is] man's [food.]

"Only the trees which you know [are] not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, to build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it is subdued.

"Then the LORD said to me, 'Do not harass Moab, nor contend with them in battle, for I will not give you [any] of their land [as] a possession, because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot [as] a possession.' "

Therefore Moab shall wail for Moab; Everyone shall wail. For the foundations of Kir Hareseth you shall mourn; Surely [they are] stricken.

Therefore my heart shall resound like a harp for Moab, And my inner being for Kir Heres.

Therefore I will wail for Moab, And I will cry out for all Moab; I will mourn for the men of Kir Heres.

Therefore My heart shall wail like flutes for Moab, And like flutes My heart shall wail For the men of Kir Heres. Therefore the riches they have acquired have perished.
