But Jehoshaphat said, "[Is there] no prophet of the LORD here, that we may inquire of the LORD by him?" So one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, "Elisha the son of Shaphat [is] here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah."

And Jehoshaphat said, "[Is there] not still a prophet of the LORD here, that we may inquire of Him?"

So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "[There is] still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say such things!"

So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance.

But [he] did not inquire of the LORD; therefore He killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

The secret of the LORD [is] with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.

In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying,

"Please inquire of the LORD for us, for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps the LORD will deal with us according to all His wonderful works, that [the king] may go away from us."

then Zedekiah the king sent and took him [out.] The king asked him secretly in his house, and said, "Is there [any] word from the LORD?" And Jeremiah said, "There is." Then he said, "You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon!"

"Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put before them that which causes them to stumble into iniquity. Should I let Myself be inquired of at all by them?

"Therefore speak to them, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Everyone of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts before him what causes him to stumble into iniquity, and then comes to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him who comes, according to the multitude of his idols,

It came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth [month,] on the tenth [day] of the month, [that] certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me.

"Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Have you come to inquire of Me? [As] I live," says the Lord GOD, "I will not be inquired of by you." '

Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.

you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth [generations] of those who hate Me,

"Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which the LORD your God has forbidden you.

" When you beget children and grandchildren and have grown old in the land, and act corruptly and make a carved image in the form of anything, and do evil in the sight of the LORD your God to provoke Him to anger,

"And the LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD will drive you.

'The whole land [is] brimstone, salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in His anger and His wrath.'

"Then [people] would say: 'Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt;

'Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against this land, to bring on it every curse that is written in this book.

"Then My anger shall be aroused against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, 'Have not these evils come upon us because our God [is] not among us?'

"And I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they have done, in that they have turned to other gods.

So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped [them] to understand the reading.

And Nehemiah, who [was] the governor, Ezra the priest [and] scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, "This day [is] holy to the LORD your God; do not mourn nor weep." For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law.

And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God [for one-fourth] of the day; and [for another] fourth they confessed and worshiped the LORD their God.

You, Yourself, [are] to be feared; And who may stand in Your presence When once You are angry?

"we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments.

"O Lord, righteousness [belongs] to You, but to us shame of face, as [it is] this day -- to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those near and those far off in all the countries to which You have driven them, because of the unfaithfulness which they have committed against You.

Who can stand before His indignation? And who can endure the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, And the rocks are thrown down by Him.

Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin.

because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law [there is] no transgression.

I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.

"For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"

"For our fathers have trespassed and done evil in the eyes of the LORD our God; they have forsaken Him, have turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned [their] backs [on Him.]

"Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for those who are left in Israel and Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great [is] the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this book."

We have sinned with our fathers, We have committed iniquity, We have done wickedly.

'And you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, each one follows the dictates of his own evil heart, so that no one listens to Me.

"But we will certainly do whatever has gone out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For [then] we had plenty of food, were well-off, and saw no trouble.

Our fathers sinned [and are] no more, But we bear their iniquities.

"O Lord, to us [belongs] shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.

"We have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
