But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were being murdered, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she did not kill him.

Now in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat [having been] king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat began to reign as king of Judah.

In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash became king, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name [was] Zibiah of Beersheba.

Jehoash did [what was] right in the sight of the LORD all the days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah, for the sake of his servant David, as He promised him to give a lamp to him [and] his sons forever.

[There is] no wisdom or understanding Or counsel against the LORD.

"Let us go up against Judah and trouble it, and let us make a gap in its wall for ourselves, and set a king over them, the son of Tabel" --

'thus says the Lord GOD: "It shall not stand, Nor shall it come to pass.

'For I will defend this city, to save it For My own sake and for My servant David's sake.' "

Thus says the LORD: "As the new wine is found in the cluster, And [one] says, 'Do not destroy it, For a blessing [is] in it,' So will I do for My servants' sake, That I may not destroy them all.

I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, And from Judah an heir of My mountains; My elect shall inherit it, And My servants shall dwell there.

"For thus says the LORD: 'David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;

'then My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My ministers.

'then I will cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, [so] that I will not take [any] of his descendants [to be] rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.' "

Against the wall of the temple he built chambers all around, [against] the walls of the temple, all around the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. Thus he made side chambers all around it.

The lowest chamber [was] five cubits wide, the middle [was] six cubits wide, and the third [was] seven cubits wide; for he made narrow ledges around the outside of the temple, so that [the support beams] would not be fastened into the walls of the temple.

The doorway for the middle story [was] on the right side of the temple. They went up by stairs to the middle [story,] and from the middle to the third.

And he built side chambers against the entire temple, each five cubits high; they were attached to the temple with cedar beams.

"Go to the house of the Rechabites, speak to them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink."

Then he said to me, "This chamber which faces south [is] for the priests who have charge of the temple.
