Judges 9:7-20

Now when they told Jotham, he went and stood on top of Mount Gerizim, and lifted his voice and cried out. And he said to them: "Listen to me, you men of Shechem, That God may listen to you!
8
"The trees once went forth to anoint a king over them. And they said to the olive tree, 'Reign over us!'
9
But the olive tree said to them, 'Should I cease giving my oil, With which they honor God and men, And go to sway over trees?'
10
"Then the trees said to the fig tree, 'You come [and] reign over us!'
11
But the fig tree said to them, 'Should I cease my sweetness and my good fruit, And go to sway over trees?'
12
"Then the trees said to the vine, 'You come [and] reign over us!'
13
But the vine said to them, 'Should I cease my new wine, Which cheers [both] God and men, And go to sway over trees?'
14
"Then all the trees said to the bramble, 'You come [and] reign over us!'
15
And the bramble said to the trees, 'If in truth you anoint me as king over you, [Then] come [and] take shelter in my shade; But if not, let fire come out of the bramble And devour the cedars of Lebanon!'
16
" Now therefore, if you have acted in truth and sincerity in making Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him as he deserves --
17
"for my father fought for you, risked his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian;
18
"but you have risen up against my father's house this day, and killed his seventy sons on one stone, and made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother --
19
"if then you have acted in truth and sincerity with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, [then] rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.
20
"But if not, let fire come from Abimelech and devour the men of Shechem and Beth Millo; and let fire come from the men of Shechem and from Beth Millo and devour Abimelech!"
2 Samuel 12:1-7

Then the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: "There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor.
2
"The rich [man] had exceedingly many flocks and herds.
3
"But the poor [man] had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him.
4
"And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man's lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him."

So David's anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, "[As] the LORD lives, the man who has done this shall surely die!
6
"And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity."
7
Then Nathan said to David, "You [are] the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.
2 Samuel 14:5-7

Then the king said to her, "What troubles you?" And she answered, "Indeed I [am] a widow, my husband is dead.

"Now your maidservant had two sons; and the two fought with each other in the field, and [there was] no one to part them, but the one struck the other and killed him.
7
"And now the whole family has risen up against your maidservant, and they said, 'Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may execute him for the life of his brother whom he killed; and we will destroy the heir also.' So they would extinguish my ember that is left, and leave to my husband [neither] name nor remnant on the earth."
Mark 12:1-12

Then He began to speak to them in parables: "A man planted a vineyard and set a hedge around [it,] dug [a place for] the wine vat and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country.
2
"Now at vintage-time he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that he might receive some of the fruit of the vineyard from the vinedressers.

"And they took [him] and beat him and sent [him] away empty-handed.
4
"Again he sent them another servant, and at him they threw stones, wounded [him] in the head, and sent [him] away shamefully treated.
5
"And again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some and killing some.
6
"Therefore still having one son, his beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying, 'They will respect my son.'
7
"But those vinedressers said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
8
"So they took him and killed [him] and cast [him] out of the vineyard.
9
"Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vinedressers, and give the vineyard to others.
10
"Have you not even read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
11
This was the LORD's doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes'?"
12
And they sought to lay hands on Him, but feared the multitude, for they knew He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went away.
