"Go immediately to King David and say to him, 'Did you not, my lord, O king, swear to your maidservant, saying, "Assuredly your son Solomon shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne"? Why then has Adonijah become king?'

Then she said to him, "My lord, you swore by the LORD your God to your maidservant, [saying,] 'Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.'

Then Solomon sat on the throne of his father David; and his kingdom was firmly established.

Then he said, "You know that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel had set their expectations on me, that I should reign. However, the kingdom has been turned over, and has become my brother's; for it was his from the LORD.

So when David was old and full of days, he made his son Solomon king over Israel.

"However the LORD God of Israel chose me above all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever, for He has chosen Judah [to be] the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father, and among the sons of my father, He was pleased with me to make [me] king over all Israel.

"And of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons) He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

"Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion."
