Then Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city -- from Giloh -- while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy grew strong, for the people with Absalom continually increased in number.

A Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son. LORD, how they have increased who trouble me! Many [are] they who rise up against me.

Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up [his] heel against me.

For [it is] not an enemy [who] reproaches me; Then I could bear [it.] Nor [is it] one [who] hates me who has exalted [himself] against me; Then I could hide from him.

We took sweet counsel together, [And] walked to the house of God in the throng.

Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests

and said, "What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?" And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.

"I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.'

Let death seize them; Let them go down alive into hell, For wickedness [is] in their dwellings [and] among them.

They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And fought against me without a cause.

Now the advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, [was] as if one had inquired at the oracle of God. So [was] all the advice of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

So Absalom and all the men of Israel said, "The advice of Hushai the Archite [is] better than the advice of Ahithophel." For the LORD had purposed to defeat the good advice of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring disaster on Absalom.

Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice was not followed, he saddled a donkey, and arose and went home to his house, to his city. Then he put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died; and he was buried in his father's tomb.

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans.

With Him [are] strength and prudence. The deceived and the deceiver [are] His.

He loosens the bonds of kings, And binds their waist with a belt.

He deprives the trusted ones of speech, And takes away the discernment of the elders.

The spirit of Egypt will fail in its midst; I will destroy their counsel, And they will consult the idols and the charmers, The mediums and the sorcerers.

Surely the princes of Zoan [are] fools; Pharaoh's wise counselors give foolish counsel. How do you say to Pharaoh, "I [am] the son of the wise, The son of ancient kings?"

The princes of Zoan have become fools; The princes of Noph are deceived; They have also deluded Egypt, [Those who are] the mainstay of its tribes.

Neither will there be [any] work for Egypt, Which the head or tail, Palm branch or bulrush, may do.

And the land of Judah will be a terror to Egypt; everyone who makes mention of it will be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts which He has determined against it.

In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the LORD at its border.

Then the LORD will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day, and will make sacrifice and offering; yes, they will make a vow to the LORD and perform [it.]

In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians.

whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, "Blessed [is] Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance."

" How can you say, 'We [are] wise, And the law of the LORD [is] with us'? Look, the false pen of the scribe certainly works falsehood.

The wise men are ashamed, They are dismayed and taken. Behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD; So what wisdom do they have?

Where [is] the wise? Where [is] the scribe? Where [is] the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.

and again, "The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile."

This wisdom does not descend from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, demonic.
