Benaiah the son of Jehoiada [was over] both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were chief ministers.

So Joab's men, with the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the mighty men, went out after him. And they went out of Jerusalem to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri.

And Joab [was] over all the army of Israel; Benaiah the son of Jehoiada [was] over the Cherethites and the Pelethites;

"We made an invasion of the southern [area] of the Cherethites, in the [territory] which [belongs] to Judah, and of the southern [area] of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire."

So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David's mule, and took him to Gihon.

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada [was] over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons [were] chief ministers at the king's side.

Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, "Why are you also going with us? Return and remain with the king. For you [are] a foreigner and also an exile from your own place.

And Ittai answered the king and said, "[As] the LORD lives, and [as] my lord the king lives, surely in whatever place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also your servant will be."

So David would not move the ark of the LORD with him into the City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

Then David sent out one third of the people under the hand of Joab, one third under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and one third under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, "I also will surely go out with you myself."

So David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each man with his household, [and] David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's widow.
