So Joseph died, [being] one hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

They buried him in his own tomb, which he had made for himself in the City of David; and they laid him in the bed which was filled with spices and various ingredients prepared in a mixture of ointments. They made a very great burning for him.

"For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did [it] for My burial.

"She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.

Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary [the mother] of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him.

Now on the first [day] of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain [other women] with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.

But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial.

And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.

Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.
