So Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, "The LORD has surely looked on my affliction. Now therefore, my husband will love me."

Now these [were] the names of the children of Israel, Jacob and his sons, who went to Egypt: Reuben [was] Jacob's firstborn.

And Joseph said to his father, "Not so, my father, for this [one is] the firstborn; put your right hand on his head."

Now the children of Reuben, Israel's oldest son, their genealogies by their families, by their fathers' house, according to the number of names, every male individually, from twenty years old and above, all who [were able to] go to war:

Reuben [was] the firstborn of Israel. The children of Reuben [were: of] Hanoch, the family of the Hanochites; [of] Pallu, the family of the Palluites;

These [were] the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,

Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel -- he [was] indeed the firstborn, but because he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, so that the genealogy is not listed according to the birthright;

the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

"But he shall acknowledge the son of the unloved wife [as] the firstborn by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he [is] the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn [is] his.

And destroyed all the firstborn in Egypt, The first of [their] strength in the tents of Ham.

He also destroyed all the firstborn in their land, The first of all their strength.
