These [were] the sons of Seir the Horite who inhabited the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

and the Horites in their mountain of Seir, as far as El Paran, which [is] by the wilderness.

Then Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

"Do not meddle with them, for I will not give you [any] of their land, no, not so much as one footstep, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau [as] a possession.

'To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I gave the mountains of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.

Now [some] of them, five hundred men of the sons of Simeon, went to Mount Seir, having as their captains Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

"And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir -- whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them --

For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy [them.] And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

"Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it,

I shall lay your cities waste, And you shall be desolate. Then you shall know that I [am] the LORD.

"therefore, [as] I live," says the Lord GOD, "I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; since you have not hated blood, therefore blood shall pursue you.

But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains and his heritage For the jackals of the wilderness."
