But God had come to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said to him, "Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad."

"It is in my power to do you harm, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, 'Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.'

A Song of Ascents. Of David. "If it had not been the LORD who was on our side," Let Israel now say --

Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us;

"The God of Abraham, the God of Nahor, and the God of their father judge between us." And Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

Then Isaac trembled exceedingly, and said, "Who? Where [is] the one who hunted game and brought [it] to me? I ate all [of it] before you came, and I have blessed him -- [and] indeed he shall be blessed."

Make vows to the LORD your God, and pay [them;] Let all who are around Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared.

He shall cut off the spirit of princes; [He is] awesome to the kings of the earth.

The LORD of hosts, Him you shall hallow; [Let] Him [be] your fear, And [let] Him [be] your dread.

"And He said, 'Lift your eyes now and see, all the rams which leap on the flocks [are] streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted; for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you.

But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

And the Angel of the LORD said to her: "Behold, you [are] with child, And you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, Because the LORD has heard your affliction.

Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, "Have I also here seen Him who sees me?"

So Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, "The LORD has surely looked on my affliction. Now therefore, my husband will love me."

And the LORD said: "I have surely seen the oppression of My people who [are] in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, "If you have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if to betray me to my enemies, since [there is] no wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers look and bring judgment."

I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, For You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities,

Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"
