Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering,

So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?

Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him.

And his brothers said to him, "Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?" So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.

' Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because of what Edom did against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended by avenging itself on them,"

"I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel, that they may do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance," says the Lord GOD.

"Because you have had an ancient hatred, and have shed [the blood of] the children of Israel by the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, [when] their iniquity [came to an] end,

Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away its [punishment,] Because he pursued his brother with the sword, And cast off all pity; His anger tore perpetually, And he kept his wrath forever.

But I will send a fire upon Teman, Which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah."

" For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever.

But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In the day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress.

You should not have stood at the crossroads To cut off those among them who escaped; Nor should you have delivered up those among them who remained In the day of distress.

not as Cain [who] was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.

We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love [his] brother abides in death.

So Isaac breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people, [being] old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

Forty days were required for him, for such are the days required for those who are embalmed; and the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.

And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spoke to the household of Pharaoh, saying, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in the hearing of Pharaoh, saying,

Then they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which [is] beyond the Jordan, and they mourned there with a great and very solemn lamentation. He observed seven days of mourning for his father.

And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, "This [is] a deep mourning of the Egyptians." Therefore its name was called Abel Mizraim, which [is] beyond the Jordan.

And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. So the days of weeping [and] mourning for Moses ended.

His servants therefore took him out of that chariot and put him in the second chariot that he had, and they brought him to Jerusalem. So he died, and was buried in [one of] the tombs of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.

I paced about as though [he were] my friend [or] brother; I bowed down heavily, as one who mourns [for his] mother.

Then the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, "We came to your brother Esau, and he also is coming to meet you, and four hundred men [are] with him."

Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Watch now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, 'Strike Amnon!' then kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and valiant."

So the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and each one got on his mule and fled.

The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth.

The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming.

A little that a righteous man has [Is] better than the riches of many wicked.

Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from violent men, Who have purposed to make my steps stumble.

The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set traps for me. Selah

When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, Then You knew my path. In the way in which I walk They have secretly set a snare for me.

Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, And whole, like those who go down to the Pit;

We shall find all [kinds] of precious possessions, We shall fill our houses with spoil;

For their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed blood.

Perversity [is] in his heart, He devises evil continually, He sows discord.

Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools.

" For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever.

"Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath,

nor give place to the devil.

To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.

They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.
