And they gathered together at Mizpah, drew water, and poured it out before Jehovah. And they fasted that day, and said there, We have sinned against Jehovah. And Samuel judged the children of Israel at Mizpah.

And Samuel said to all Israel: Behold, I have heeded your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you.

And Samuel died; and all Israel gathered together and mourned for him, and buried him at his home at Ramah. And David arose and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

Nevertheless, Jehovah raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and Jehovah delivered Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-Rishathaim.

And the land had rest for forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

After that He gave them judges for about four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.

And afterward they asked for a king; so God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
