Judges 1:1
Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass that the children of Israel asked Jehovah, saying, Who shall first go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them?
Judges 11:5-8

And so it was, when the sons of Ammon made war against Israel, that the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob.

And then they said to Jephthah, Come and be our commander, that we may fight against the sons of Ammon.
7
So Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, Did you not hate me, and drive me out of my father's house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?
8
And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, That is why we have turned again to you now, that you may go with us and fight against the sons of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
Isaiah 3:1-8

For behold, the Lord Jehovah of Hosts takes away the support and the staff from Jerusalem and from Judah; the whole support of bread and the whole support of water;

the mighty man, and the man of war; the judge and the prophet, and the diviner, and the elder;

the commander of fifty and the honorable man; the counselor and the skilled magician; and the expert enchanter.

And I will give youth to be their rulers, and wanton children shall rule over them.

And the people shall be oppressed, man against man, every man by his neighbor. The youth will be insolent against the elder, and the dishonorable against the honorable.

When a man shall take hold of his brother, in his father's house, saying, You have clothing! Come, you be our ruler; let this ruin be under your power.

In that day he shall lift himself up and say, I cannot be one who binds up; for there is neither bread nor clothing in my house; do not make me a ruler of the people.

For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen; because their tongue and their deeds are rebellion toward Jehovah and against the eyes of His glory.
