Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.

You shall therefore plot out the land into seven parts and bring the map here to me, and I shall cast lots for you here before Jehovah our God.

And Joshua cast lots for them at Shiloh before Jehovah, and there Joshua distributed the land to the sons of Israel according to their divisions.

So Joshua arose early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was taken.

And he brought near his house man by man, and Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

Now therefore, divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

These are what the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel divided up as possessions.

Their inheritance was by lot, as Jehovah had commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe.

This, then, was the lot of the tribe of the sons of Judah according to their families: The border of Edom at the Wilderness of Zin southward was the southern extremity.

Therefore Saul said to Jehovah the God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken, but the people escaped.

And they prayed and said, You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen

And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Therefore let us pursue the things of peace and the things that build up one another.
