(for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?);

Behold, I have told you beforehand.

And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his servants, to give them their portion of food at the right time?

he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with simplicity; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,

and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

Remember those in authority over you, who have spoken the Word of God to you. Observing the outworkings of their behavior, imitate their faith.

Obey those in authority over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

Greet all those in authority over you, and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you.

Honor widows who are truly widows.

They also honored us with many honors; and when we departed, they provided such things as were necessary.

For it seemed good to them, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been partakers of their spiritual things, it is also their duty to minister to them in carnal things.

Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?

Who ever serves military duty at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Or who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk of the flock?

For it is written in the Law of Moses, You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain. Is it oxen God is concerned about?

If we have sown spiritual things to you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things?

Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the altar?

Let him being taught the Word share in all good things with him who teaches.

Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in honor;

And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, Ask! What shall I do for you, before I am taken away from you? And Elisha said, Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.

Speak to the heart of Jerusalem, and cry out to her, that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned; for she has received from the hand of Jehovah double for all her sins.

And first I will repay double their iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My land, they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable things.

Let those who persecute me be ashamed, but do not let me be put to shame; let them be dismayed, but do not let me be dismayed. Bring upon them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.

Turn to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you.

For to this end we both labor and are reproached, because we trust in the living God, who is the preserver of all men, especially of those who believe.

And He said to His disciples, The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.

Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to come.

And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.

I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.

I have shown you in everything, by laboring like this, that we need to support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, who have labored in the Lord. Greet the beloved Persis, who labored much in the Lord.

For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than every one of them, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

that you also submit to such, and to everyone who works and labors with us.

We then, as workers together with Him, also beseech you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

holding fast the Word of Life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

And I urge you also, true yoke-fellow, help these women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.

The hard-working farmer should rightfully be first to partake of the crops.

If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed.

Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will deliver both yourself and those who hear you.

Preach the Word. Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
