And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.

And Jehovah said to Moses, I have seen this people, and behold it is a stiff-necked people!

Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn against them, that I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.

Hear, My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you; I am God, your God.

Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, says Jehovah.

I have seen your adulteries, and your neighings, the lewdness of your harlotry, and your abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! Will you not be made clean? How long will it still be?

I have seen a horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the harlotry of Ephraim; Israel is defiled.

And I will come near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against those swearing to a lie; and against those who defraud the hired laborer of his pay, and turn away the widow, and the fatherless, and the alien; and who do not fear Me, says Jehovah of Hosts.

Therefore understand that Jehovah your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.

Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no more;

for I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. If today, while I am yet alive with you, you have been rebellious against Jehovah, then how much more after my death?

Nevertheless they would not hear, but stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who had not believed in Jehovah their God.
