And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.

But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the lands to the east.

And Esau said, Behold, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?

And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; and he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (he was indeed the firstborn, but because he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, for the genealogy to not be reckoned according to the birthright;

yet Judah has prevailed over his brothers, and from him is the chief ruler, although the birthright was Joseph's);

Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity and the excellency of power.

He also destroyed all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their vigor.

And Jacob said, Sell me your birthright today.

And Jacob said, Swear to me this day. So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.
