For they are My servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold as slaves.

And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have from the nations that are around you, from them you shall buy male and female slaves.

And you shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them as a possession; they shall be your permanent slaves. But regarding your brethren, the children of Israel, you shall not rule over one another with harshness.

And Joshua summoned them, and he spoke to them, saying, Why have you deceived us, saying, We are very far from you, when you are dwelling among us?

Now therefore, you are cursed, and none of you shall fail to be slaves, woodcutters and drawers of water for the house of my God.

And that day Joshua made them woodcutters and drawers of water for the congregation and for the altar of Jehovah, in the place which He would choose, even to this day.

There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. All the others they took in battle.

For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that He might utterly destroy them, and that they might receive no mercy, but that He might destroy them, as Jehovah had commanded Moses.

And they did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell in the midst of Ephraim to this day and are serving under tribute.

And it came to pass, when Israel had become strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not drive out to dispossess them.

Nor did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron or the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and were put to tribute.

But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.

And the Amorites squeezed the children of Dan into the mountains, for they would not allow them to come down to the valley;

that is, their sons who were left in the land after them, whom the children of Israel had not been able to destroy completely; from these Solomon raised forced labor, as it is to this day.

But of the children of Israel Solomon made no slaves, because they were men of war and his servants: his officers, his captains, commanders of his chariots, and his horsemen.

I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.

But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, We do not desire to have this man reign over us.
