So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, since they all glorified God for what had been done.

Moreover none of the rest dared join them, but the people magnified them.

And they agreed with him, and when they had summoned the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

Now when the people saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian language, The gods have come down to us, becoming like men!

Then the priest of Zeus, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, determined to sacrifice with the multitudes.

and saying, Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them,

Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, doing good, giving us rain from the heavens and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to have died.

And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city;

Then the multitude rose up against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.

So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.

However, they were expecting that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had looked for a long time and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.

And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him.

They also honored us with many honors; and when we departed, they provided such things as were necessary.

We are foolish because of Christ, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are distinguished, but we are dishonored.

And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;

Blessed are you when they shall revile and persecute you, and shall say every evil word against you falsely because of Me.

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven, for in this manner they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household!

Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this need;

And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.

Then a certain Ananias, a devout man according to the Law, having a good testimony with all the Jews who dwelt there,

For we have found this man pestilent, a mover of insurrection among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

But we desire to hear from you what you think; for concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere.

And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say), Let us do evil that good may come? Their condemnation is just.

Moreover he must have a good testimony with those who are outside, that he not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

For to this end we both labor and are reproached, because we trust in the living God, who is the preserver of all men, especially of those who believe.

Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach.

If you are reproached for the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. According to them He is blasphemed, but according to you He is glorified.

Demetrius has a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself. And we also bear witness, and you know that our testimony is true.

Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie; indeed I will make them come and bow the knee before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

saying, Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, After three days I will rise.

And there was much murmuring among the people concerning Him. Some said, He is good; others said, No, rather, He leads the multitudes astray.

If anyone wants to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak out of Myself.

And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men.

And when they had come, they said to Him, Teacher, we know that You are true, and care about no one; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and unrighteousness is not in Him.
