But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!

For Sadducees say that there is no resurrection; and no angel or spirit; but the Pharisees confess both.

But if it is a question of words and names and your own law, see to it yourselves; for I do not want to be a judge of such matters.

For we have found this man pestilent, a mover of insurrection among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

He even tried to profane the temple, and we seized him, and were determined to judge him according to our law.

Then Paul, after the governor had nodded to him to speak, answered: Inasmuch as I know that you have been for many years a judge of this nation, I do the more cheerfully make my defense,

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with anyone nor inciting the crowd, neither in the synagogues nor throughout the city.

But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I serve the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets.

This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience that is blameless toward God and men.

in the midst of which some Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with a crowd nor with tumult.

Or else let these themselves say if they found any wrongdoing in me while I stood before the council,

but had some questions against him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, who had died, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

And because I was uncertain of such questions, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.

And when he had come, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around and brought many serious complaints against Paul, which they were not able to prove.

Defending himself he said, Neither against the Law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I trespassed in anything at all.

For if I have done wrong, or have committed anything deserving of death, I do not refuse to die; but if there is nothing in these things of which these men accuse me, no one can deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar.

But when I found that he had committed nothing deserving of death, and that he himself had appealed to Augustus, I decided to send him.

and when they had gone aside, they talked among themselves, saying, This man is doing nothing deserving of death or bonds.
